ROTHERFIELD WALKING FOOTBALL

Team info
Rotherfield Walking Football club is open to all. Walking Football is similar to regular football but is a small sided game played at a slower pace with a few unique rules. It is the perfect fit for anyone who wants to play the game, make new friends, stay active and have fun in a friendly, supportive environment.
Walking Football is ideal for anyone who wants to continue playing football, who wants to return to the game, or who has not played football before! At most sessions we have around 25-30 players with a wide variety of abilities.
We play one-hour sessions twice weekly with a couple of breaks during the hour. Our normal days, times and locations are as follows – but occasionally due to rain or drought or club tournaments we play elsewhere. Please contact us in advance to check the location if you are coming along to watch or to meet us before joining.
Thursday mornings from 10.00 am at Bishopswood Sports Ground, in Gallowstree Common
Monday evenings during April – October from 5.45 pm at Bishopswood Sports Ground and November – March from 5pm at Highdown school in Emmer Green. We change locations around the day that the clocks change.
There is a modest cost for playing a session along with a small annual registration fee with Rotherfield Utd.
There is no season with WF – we play throughout the year and we offer about 95 sessions each year.
We also play in some competitive leagues and tournaments against other clubs.
We also arrange some fun and varied social events throughout the year. These have recently included – a walking tour of London, monthly summer cycle rides, a golf tournament, monthly coffee & cake catchup, Newbury horse racing, pub tours in Henley & Reading and a visit to the RAF club.
Each year we raise money for one or two chosen charities. In 2024 we raised money for Royal Berkshire Hospital Cardiac Rehab Unit and for the British Heart Foundation. In 2025 we supported FISH in Sonning Common and Prostate UK. In 2026 we have chosen GreenShoots as our local charity and Blood Cancer UK.

When I joined the WF club I was warmly welcomed and encouraged to play at my own standard. There is plenty of humour and camaraderie on and off the pitch. It’s the best work out imaginable | Chris
